The cell offset fee, also known as roaming tariff, is an extra charge which must be paid by the Brazilian telephone system users when they use their cell phones outside your area DDD.
Being more specific, this means that even a simple trip to a city a little further and within your own State may end up getting more expensive both in time to receive and in time to make connections.
What is the Price of the Cell Offset Fare?
The price of the cell offset fee varies between operators and the type of plan that you use. There are plans that offer special rates for those who travel a lot out of your normal coverage area. Certain operators, within areas in one State, do not charge the roaming tariff.
The cost of long distance roaming is between 1.40 to R$ R$ 1.63 per minute. Such cost shall be paid by the customer when he comes out of your coverage area, is traveling to a different code city in the same State or traveling to a different State. There is, however, a value set by ANATEL for the charging of roaming. However, this must be clearly informed to the client in your contract with your carrier.
Where to Find the Roaming Fee?
The carriers ‘ roaming tariff can be found directly on the site of the operators, on the page dedicated to your type of plan, be it prepaid, post-paid or control.
What the Roaming Fee?
When the Brazilian mobile telephony system began its expansion, the carriers ‘ coverage was much smaller than today. And the vast majority of them only covered a certain region of the country. So, when a user of the mobile phone system had to be carried over between cities of different codes or different States, it would be necessary to use the network and infrastructure of other carriers. The roaming entered as a way to compensate for the extra costs to the carrier of the client, which would have to pay another carrier by the use of the network.
Just that times have changed, and this is no longer the reality. Carriers today, for the most part, has national coverage or subsidiaries covering much of the country. There is a recent movement that aims to put an end to this collection. However, as this fee to offset is still a major source of income for operators, it may still take a while before we had any response.
Can I Negotiate the Offset Cell Phone?
Unable to negotiate the fare charged when there is change of CN (National Code), i.e. When you travel a LONG DISTANCE to another code. However, it is entirely possible to find a plan or carrier that offers a phone plan with cheaper fares for travelers. Or, in cases where you have to be a longer period away from home, can be a good idea to acquire a temporary other carrier SIM, in the area you are visiting or working. Thus, you avoid the extra costs of roaming rate and end up saving money.
