Vintage Signs Making – DIY Instructions

It is best to match the napkins to the rest of your vintage deco. For Stylishtacoma.com, take your napkins with a sweet saying and a few roses. And then we start with the crafting:

Step 1:Grind the woodwork & base stains

Before you start making the vintage labels yourself, you grind the piece of wood to remove bumps and dark spots. If you do not grind the piece of wood, you may see bumps and spots on your vintage signs.Simply sand the surface with the sandpaper.

After the sanding, the basic colors are applied.Simply cut off a piece of foam and clamp it into the laundry clamp. Then dip into the brown color and dye the entire surface. Then use the hair dryer to dry it.

It is best to repeat the whole thing again so that the color is opaque.

Step 2:Rub with a candle

After your color has dried, rub the surface and the edges of your piece of wood with a candle. The shabby look for your vintage sign will later be created in the places you have engraved with the candle.

Step 3:Color white

Cut off a new piece of foam material and re-clamp it in the washing clamp.Put the piece of foam into a white color and dye your piece of wood with it.

Then re-energize with the hair dryer and repeat the whole thing three times so you have three layers of white paint on your Shabby shield.

Step 4:Grinding

With the sandpaper, you now sand your wood piece irregularly. This creates the typical vintage look for a perfect vintage sign.

Step 5:Peel off the napkin and place on the foil

Almost every napkin consists of three layers. You are now pulling the upper layer. The lower two layers you do not need for the vintage plates. The edges of the napkin can be torn off a little, because otherwise you would see the edges of the napkin on the piece of wood.

Since the piece of wood is a large and flat surface, sticking the napkin with the foil is advantageous since almost no wrinkles can occur here.

So take the foil as well as the napkin and place the napkin with the top on the foil (see picture).

Step 6:Spray the napkin & smooth the wrinkles

You sprinkle the napkin with water to make the napkin wet. Then carefully pull the folds of the napkin down with your fingers and upwards, so that the napkin no longer has folds. You can pull the napkin to the left and to the right, if there are still folds. In this case, however, you must be extremely careful not to tear the napkin.

Step 8:Stick the napkin on the vintage sign

Simply place the foil on the piece of wood with the napkin down.

Now pull the film carefully. At this point, you can also help with the brush to peel the napkin from the foil.Be careful not to let the napkin stick to the foil and possibly tear it.

Then stick the napkin with wooden glue to your piece of wood.It is best to start in the middle and work outwards in circular movements. And also re-well with the hair dryer and let it dry.

Step 9:Stick the rose motif and paint everything

If you have a rose motif on your napkin, you can tear it out of the remaining napkin and stick it next to the saying of your napkin.Just like you are, you start in the middle and work your way out with circular movements. Please take care not to create wrinkles. Then rejuvenate with the hair dryer again.

Tip: If the edges of your napkin are visible, carefully sand the edges with the sandpaper in circular movements.Your napkin must be dry, otherwise you may grind the napkin completely.

Then you paint the wood piece and the edges and let the whole dry well. You can dab the edges of the roses with the white color with the foam so they can not be seen anymore and the vintage shield looks perfect. Then you let everything dry again and varnish this place.

Finally, you can silver the roses on the vintage plate with glitter liner.

Step 10:Vintage signboard with lace decorate

As a last step, you can stick some lace or a sweet loop and the project will make vintage labels yourself!

In ten steps you have made a great vintage sign from a piece of wood. This wedding sign will definitely be a real eyecatcher on your vintage wedding.
