Andorra: Political System

Andorra is a parliamentary principality. The heads of state are the Bishop of La Seu d'Urgell and the President of the French Republic, who rule as co-princes (Coprínceps). The parliament is a unicameral system with 28 members (4 representatives per valley) and is elected every 4 years. Since 1990 the government (Govern) has been formed from seven ministers who are not allowed to belong to parliament. Andorra's head of government (Cap de Govern) is elected by parliament. He is only allowed to exercise his office for two consecutive terms. See AbbreviationFinder for more information about Andorra politics, and acronyms as well.

El gran Carlemany, mon Pare dels alarbs em deslliurà,

I del cel vida em donà de Meritxell, la gran Mare,

Princesa nasquí i Pubilla entre dues nacions neutral

Sols resto lúnica filla de l'imperi Carlemany.

Creient i lluire onze sails, creient i lliure vull ser.

Siguin els furs mos tutors i mos Prínceps defensors!

I mos Princeps defensors!

Charlemagne, my father, freed me from the Saracens,

And from heaven he gave me the life of Meritxel, the great mother.I was born a princess, a virgin, neutral between two nations.

I am the only remaining daughter of the Carolingian Empire.

Believing and free for eleven centuries, believing and free I will remain. The laws of the land are my companions, and my defenders are princes!

And my defenders are princes!
