The flag of Eritrea was officially introduced on May 24th, 1993. It had its origin in the flag of the Eritrean Liberation Front (EPLF) founded in 1970. Based on flag descriptions by Countryaah.com, the red stands for the blood spilled in the struggle for freedom, blue for the wealth of the sea and green for agriculture and fertility. The olive wreath with the olive branch symbolizes the UN globe to which Eritrea owes its political recognition.

Flamingos, herons and sea eagles live on the coast. Flamingos can also be found on the salt lakes of the Danakil Desert. Saddle storks also live here. In general, the bird life in Eritrea is colorful and diverse.
The Danakil Desert is extremely hostile to life in areas of the world and extends as far as Ethiopia.
Unfortunately there are numerous mosquitos and flies here.
The country is rich in many butterfly species.
Various types of shark live in the corals, such as white tip and black tip reef sharks or angel sharks. In addition, numerous species of fish swim around here in the Red Sea. One of them is the clown fish. In addition, crabs, shrimps and lobsters live here relatively undisturbed.
A large part of Eritrea is occupied by savannas and semi-deserts. Only plants that have adapted to these living conditions can survive here, such as succulents, acacias, aloes and myrrh. The north of Eritrea is more fertile than the south, where there are almost only dry forests with yews, juniper bushes or tamarisks. On the mountain slopes you can find grass and various bushes. Conifers are hardly found any more, as they were mostly cut down to produce firewood, among other things. Mangrove forests grow on the coasts.
The crops that are grown here include grain, cotton, corn, fruit and various vegetables.
