According to watchtutorials, Benin is a West African country with a population of approximately 11.5 million people, according to the 2018 census. The population is largely concentrated in the southern part of the country, near the coast, where more than 70% of the population lives. This concentration is due to Benin’s long coastline and its proximity to Nigeria, its largest trading partner. The majority of Benin’s population is composed of various ethnic groups, such as Fon and Yoruba people, and more recent immigrants from other parts of West Africa. The official language of Benin is French, although many people also speak local African languages such as Fon and Yoruba. The literacy rate in Benin stands at just over 40%, which is lower than average for sub-Saharan African countries.
