According to watchtutorials, Costa Rica is a small and relatively diverse country, with a population of roughly 5 million people. With its mild climate, Costa Rica has become an attractive destination for immigrants from all over the world. As of 2021, approximately 20% of Costa Rica’s population was made up of immigrants and their descendants. The majority of these are Nicaraguan and Colombian, but there are also significant numbers from El Salvador, Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, Cuba and the United States. The non-immigrant population is largely made up of indigenous peoples such as the Bribri and Cabecar who have lived in the region for thousands of years. Mestizos make up the largest segment of the population at around 65%, followed by whites at 18%, Afro-Caribbeans at 6%, and Chinese and other minorities at 11%. Spanish is the official language in Costa Rica but many people also speak English or other indigenous languages like Bribri or Cabecar. Religion is also a major factor in Costa Rican society with Roman Catholicism being dominant amongst both immigrants and non-immigrants alike. See itypetravel for Costa Rica Population and Language.
