The population of Equatorial Guinea is estimated to be around 1.3 million people, with over 90% of the population living in urban areas. The majority of the population is comprised of indigenous Bantu ethnic groups, including Fang, Bubi, and Ndowe. There are also sizable numbers of people from other African countries and from Spain. Spanish is the official language, though many people also speak French and Portuguese as well. Christianity is the predominant religion in Equatorial Guinea, with over 80% of the population practicing some form of Christianity. Animism and traditional beliefs are still practiced by a number of people as well. Education in Equatorial Guinea is free and compulsory for children up to age 16, though there are still large disparities in educational attainment between rural and urban populations due to lack of resources in rural areas.
