According to top-mba-universities, Elmore County, Idaho is located in the south central part of the state and is home to around 28,000 people. The county was established in 1889 and was named after a local Native American chief, Chief Elmore. It is bordered by Owyhee, Boise, Ada and Gem counties. The county seat is Mountain Home and other cities include Glenns Ferry, Hammett and Grand View. The first settlers of Elmore County arrived in the 1860s and were primarily miners looking for gold and silver. By the late 1870s the population had grown significantly due to the influx of homesteaders looking to make a living on the land. The area soon became known as an agricultural hub, with farmers raising cattle, sheep and crops such as wheat, alfalfa hay, apples and potatoes. In addition to agriculture, Elmore County has a long history of mining. The mining boom began in 1879 with the discovery of rich deposits of gold near Atlanta. Over time numerous other minerals were discovered including copper ore at Rocky Bar in 1882 and silver ore at Silver City in 1887. By 1900 there were over 200 mines operating throughout Elmore County producing gold, silver, copper ore and tungsten among other minerals. During World War II Elmore County saw an increase in military activity due to its strategic location near Mountain Home Air Force Base which opened in 1942. The base became a key site for bomber training during the war years as well as being used for nuclear weapons testing during the Cold War era until 1992 when it was decommissioned by President George H W Bush. Today, Elmore County continues to be a major agricultural center with livestock production being its primary economic driver followed by crop production such as wheat and alfalfa hay. The county is also home to several recreational areas including Anderson Ranch Reservoir, Lucky Peak Reservoir and Danskin Mountains Recreation Area. Additionally, Elmore County is home to numerous historic sites such as the Atlanta Mining District, Rocky Bar Historical Park and the Silver City Museum. Elmore County is home to several public school districts, including Mountain Home School District, Glenns Ferry School District, Grand View School District and Hammett-Farnam Joint School District. The Mountain Home School District serves the city of Mountain Home and is the largest district in Elmore County. It has seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. The district also offers alternative education programs for students who require additional support or are at risk of dropping out. The Glenns Ferry School District serves the city of Glenns Ferry and includes one elementary school, one middle school and one high school. It provides a safe learning environment for students and offers numerous extracurricular activities such as athletics, clubs and foreign language classes. The Grand View School District serves the city of Grand View with two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district offers a wide range of academic courses as well as vocational training programs to prepare students for college or a career after graduation. Lastly, the Hammett-Farnam Joint School District serves the small towns of Hammett and Farnam with two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district focuses on providing quality education to all its students while also offering extracurricular activities such as sports teams, music lessons and art classes. Overall, Elmore County is served by several excellent public school districts that provide quality instruction to their students while also offering numerous extracurricular activities to help them grow socially as well as academically. Each district strives to create a safe learning environment where all students can reach their full potential while preparing them for college or career paths after graduation.
