According to top-mba-universities, Clarke County, Iowa has a long and storied history dating back to its founding in 1846. The county was named after John Clarke, an early settler and one of the first justices of the peace in the state of Iowa. The county seat is Osceola, which was founded in 1847. In the mid-1800s, Clarke County became an important center for commerce and transportation due to its location at the intersection of two major rivers: the Des Moines River and Mississippi River. This allowed settlers to easily transport goods from east to west and north to south. During this time, Clarke County also experienced a population boom as many new settlers moved into the area seeking economic opportunity. The railroad arrived in Clarke County in 1871, further expanding transportation options and allowing for increased trade with other towns along the line. This spurred more economic growth in the area as businesses began to locate near railway stations that were built throughout the county. By 1900, Clarke County had become an agricultural powerhouse with over 40 farms producing corn, wheat, oats, hay, livestock and dairy products. In addition to its agricultural roots, Clarke County has also been home to numerous industries including glass manufacturing during World War II and furniture production since 1950s. In recent years there has been a resurgence of small business activity within Clarke County due to its proximity to larger cities such as Des Moines and Omaha. Today, Clarke County is still a vibrant rural community that is home to nearly 9500 residents who are proud of their rich history and look forward to continued progress into the future.
