According to watchtutorials, Libya is a North African country with an estimated population of 6.2 million people in 2018. It is the fourth most populous country in Africa, after Nigeria, Ethiopia and Egypt. The population is mostly concentrated in the coastal cities of Tripoli and Benghazi. Libya has a young population with about half aged under 24 years old, and a high fertility rate of 3.41 children per woman. This is one of the highest fertility rates in Africa, which contributes to its population growth rate of 1.5%. Libya’s population is largely composed of Arabs and Berbers, with small minorities from other ethnic backgrounds such as Tuareg and Toubou. The majority of Libyans are Muslim, with a small Christian minority making up less than 1% of the population. Additionally, there are also many immigrants from neighboring countries living in Libya due to its proximity to Europe and its oil wealth. Over the last decade, Libya has experienced an influx of immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa due to civil unrest within their home countries as well as economic opportunities available in Libya’s oil-rich economy. As a result, there has been an increasing number of foreign-born people living in Libya who make up around 10% of the total population. See ejinhua for Libya Population and Language.
