According to top-mba-universities, Cedar County, Missouri was first settled in 1845 by a group of 25 families from the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois. The county was named after the Cedar tree that grew abundantly in the area. By 1849, the population had grown to over 1000 people. During this time, many small towns and villages were established, including Stockton, Caplinger Mills, El Dorado Springs and Jerico Springs. Over the years Cedar County saw an influx of settlers from various parts of Europe such as Germany and Poland who added to the cultural diversity of the area. The economy of Cedar County was originally based on agriculture with crops such as wheat, oats, corn and hay being grown on large farms throughout the county. As time passed more modern methods of farming were adopted which increased productivity and allowed for greater profits. Livestock such as cattle and hogs were also raised in Cedar County at this time. In addition to farming, other industries developed in Cedar County including logging which saw large tracts of timber being cut down for use as lumber or paper products. Mining also became an important industry with lead being extracted from mines in Jerico Springs during the late 1800s. Cedar County, Missouri is home to multiple school districts that provide education for students of all ages. The Stockton R-1 School District serves students from grades K-12 in the Stockton area, while the El Dorado Springs R-2 School District serves students from grades K-12 in El Dorado Springs and Jerico Springs. Both districts are comprised of elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. In addition to these two districts, Cedar County is also served by several private schools such as the Cedar County Christian Academy and the Cedar Valley Christian Academy. These private schools provide an alternative educational option for families who wish to provide their children with a more religious or faith-based education. The Cedar County school districts have a long history of providing quality education to their students. In recent years they have implemented new programs such as Advanced Placement courses and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives which have helped to improve student performance and achievement across all grade levels.
