According to top-mba-universities, Granite County, Montana is located in the western part of the state and is one of the most sparsely populated counties in Montana. It was established in 1893 and has a long history of mining, logging, and ranching. The county was named after Granite Mountain which rises above many of its towns. The first settlers in Granite County were miners who were attracted by silver and gold deposits found within its borders. The town of Philipsburg was established as a base for these miners and quickly grew to become the county’s largest city. Other towns such as Drummond, Hall, and Garrison soon followed suit and provided homes for those who worked in the mines or logged the surrounding forests. During the early 1900s, cattle ranching became an important industry for Granite County with many large ranches being established throughout its borders. This period also saw an influx of sheep ranchers from Europe who utilized much of the open range land to raise their herds on.
