The majority of the population is concentrated in the southern and eastern parts of the country. The capital city of Oslo has a population of 673,464 as of 2018. Other major cities include Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, and Drammen. Norway is ethnically diverse with immigrants from various countries around the world living in the country. As of 2018, about 15% of the population was made up of immigrants or people with an immigrant background. This includes people from Poland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark and other European countries as well as those from Asia and Africa. In addition to this diversity in ethnicity and culture there are also distinct regional differences in language and dialects across Norway’s regions. Sami people are an important minority group in Norway which has its own language and culture that is recognized by law.
