Polynesians make up 3%, and Micronesians make up 1%. The population is mostly rural, with only 24% living in urban areas. The largest cities are Honiara and Gizo. The Solomon Islands has a young and growing population with a median age of 19 years old, and a fertility rate of 2.6 children per woman. There has been an increase in life expectancy over the last few decades, with a current life expectancy at birth of 68 years for men and 71 years for women. In terms of religion, Christianity is predominant in the country with approximately 95% identifying as Christian, while 5% practice other religions or traditional beliefs. Education levels are low due to lack of resources; only half (51%) of the adult population have completed primary school education or higher while only 6% have received tertiary education or higher. English is the official language spoken throughout the country however many local indigenous languages are also spoken by different ethnic groups across the nation.
