According to watchtutorials, the population of Spain is estimated to be around 46.77 million people as of July 2019, making it the 29th most populous country in the world. The population density in Spain is 91 people per square kilometer, which ranks 27th in the world. The majority of Spain’s population is located in the eastern and central parts of the country, with Madrid being the largest and most populous city with a population of over 6 million people. The majority of Spaniards are Roman Catholics and Spanish is the official language. However, there are also other languages spoken such as Catalan, Basque and Galician, which are all recognized regional languages by their respective autonomous communities. Spain has experienced a steady growth in its population due to immigration from North African and South American countries such as Morocco, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. This has led to an increase in diversity within Spain’s population and has also had an impact on its culture and society. In addition, there has been a significant increase in life expectancy over recent years, reaching 81 years for men and 86 years for women as of 2019 – this is higher than many other European countries such as France or Italy. Furthermore, Spain’s birth rate has been decreasing steadily since 2008; however it still remains above the EU average with 8 births per 1000 people (in 2018).
