According to watchtutorials, Turkmenistan is a country located in Central Asia, bordering Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Iran and the Caspian Sea. It has a population of approximately 5.5 million people. The majority of the population is ethnic Turkmen which account for about 85%, followed by Uzbeks at 6%, Russians at 4% and other ethnic minorities making up the remaining 5%. Turkmenistan has a young population with an average age of 28 years old. The literacy rate is quite high at 99%, with primary education being compulsory for all children from the ages of seven to 15 years old. The birth rate is high compared to other countries in Central Asia and the death rate is low due to improved healthcare systems in recent years. The majority of Turkmens are Muslim, with 93% practicing Sunni Islam and 6% practicing Shia Islam. Other religions practiced in Turkmenistan include Christianity, Judaism and Buddhism. In terms of languages spoken, Turkmen is the official language spoken by 87% of the population while Russian is also widely spoken. Other languages spoken include Uzbek and Kurdish among others.
