According to watchtutorials, the population of United Arab Emirates (UAE) is estimated to be around 9.54 million in 2020. It is a highly diverse population with expatriates making up 88.52% of the total population and Emiratis accounting for 11.48%. The majority of the expatriates are from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines and other countries in Asia and Africa. The UAE has a high rate of urbanization with around 84% of the population living in urban areas such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman. The median age of the population is 32 years old with a life expectancy at birth of 77 years for males and 81 years for females. The literacy rate in the UAE is one of the highest in the world at 97%. English is widely spoken by expatriates while Arabic is the official language spoken by Emiratis. The UAE has a low birth rate due to its young population and high immigration rates which leads to an aging population as well as a gender imbalance with more males than females present in the country. There are also regional variations within the UAE with each emirate having its own unique characteristics and demographics such as Abu Dhabi being more affluent than other emirates like Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah. Additionally, there are over 200 nationalities represented within its borders making it a truly globalized nation where many cultures coexist peacefully alongside each other.
