According to watchtutorials, Vietnam is a country of approximately 96 million people, making it the 13th most populous nation in the world. The majority of the population is ethnic Vietnamese, accounting for over 85% of the total population. Other ethnic minorities include Chinese, Hmong, Khmer, and Cham. The official language of Vietnam is Vietnamese, however many other languages are spoken within the country such as English, French and Chinese. A large portion of Vietnam’s population lives in rural areas with a high poverty rate. In fact, about 27% of the population lives below the poverty line. In urban areas however, there is a much higher standard of living and education level than in rural areas. Education is highly valued in Vietnam and literacy rates are high with over 95% being able to read and write at least one language. Additionally, life expectancy has increased significantly over recent years from under 65 years (in 1990) to just over 76 years (in 2020).
