According to watchtutorials, Yemen is a country located in the Middle East with a population of approximately 28 million people. The majority of the population is Arab, however there are some smaller ethnic groups including Kurds, Indians, Balochis and Turks. The official language of Yemen is Arabic, though English is also widely spoken. The majority of the population follows Islam with a small minority of Christians and Jews. The average life expectancy in Yemen is 68 years for men and 70 years for women. Despite this, Yemen has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world with an estimated 50 deaths per 1,000 live births. Education levels are low throughout the country due to poverty and displacement caused by ongoing conflict; only about half of children in Yemen attend primary school and only about one third attend secondary school. The economy of Yemen is largely based on oil production and exports; however, due to ongoing conflict much of its infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. This has led to a high rate of unemployment and poverty throughout the country with many people living below the poverty line. In recent years, humanitarian aid has been provided by international organizations to help alleviate some of these issues; however, much more needs to be done in order to improve living standards in Yemen.
