According to top-mba-universities, Crawford County, Michigan is a county located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was established in 1831 and named after U.S. Senator William H. Crawford of Georgia. The county is bordered by Lake Huron to the east, Mackinac County to the north and Oscoda County to the south. The county seat is Grayling, which was first settled in 1874 and officially incorporated as a village in 1881. The area now known as Crawford County was originally inhabited by the Ojibwa people and later by French fur traders who established trading posts along local rivers and lakes. During the late 19th century, lumbering became a major industry in the area with logging camps cropping up throughout the region. The construction of railroads further opened up access to markets for lumber and other products such as iron ore and copper, which were also mined in Crawford County during this time period. In addition to logging, farming was also an important part of life in Crawford County during this time period with numerous family farms dotting the landscape throughout much of the 20th century. As technology advanced, however, many farms were unable to keep up with new industry standards leading to a decline in farming activity throughout much of the county by mid-century. Today, Crawford County remains rural with its economy largely based on tourism due to its scenic beauty and abundance of recreational opportunities such as hunting fishing and camping at nearby Hartwick Pines State Park or canoeing on local rivers like Au Sable or Manistee River. In addition, there are several small businesses located throughout Crawford County providing jobs for local residents including manufacturing facilities producing automotive parts or furniture components as well as several wineries producing locally made wines from locally grown grapes. Crawford County, Michigan is home to four school districts: Grayling Public Schools, Crawford AuSable School District, Fairview Area Schools and Roscommon Area Public Schools. Each of these school districts serves the educational needs of students in their respective areas. The Grayling Public Schools district is the largest in the county and serves over 1,700 students in grades K-12. The district operates seven schools including an elementary school, middle school and high school as well as four alternative schools offering alternative education programs. The district also employs over 150 teachers and staff members to ensure a quality education for all students. The Crawford AuSable School District serves 1,300 students from grades K-12 in five schools located throughout Crawford County. This district has a strong focus on academic excellence with a variety of programs available for both college-bound and career-oriented students. The district also offers career and technical education classes for those interested in pursuing vocational careers after high school. Fairview Area Schools serve over 800 students from grades K-12 with five schools located throughout the county. This district offers a variety of programs including advanced placement classes at the high school level as well as dual enrollment opportunities for college credit while still in high school. In addition, Fairview Area Schools also offers several extracurricular activities such as sports teams and clubs allowing all students to be involved outside of the classroom setting. Finally, Roscommon Area Public Schools serve over 1,200 students from grades K-12 with six schools located throughout the county including an elementary school, middle school and high school as well as three alternative education centers offering specialized services such as special education or dropout recovery programs. Roscommon Area Public Schools has a strong focus on preparing all students for success after graduation by providing them with rigorous academic courses along with career exploration opportunities through its college prep program or its postsecondary options program which helps prepare them for college or trade/vocational careers after graduation.
