According to top-mba-universities, Fairfield County, South Carolina is located in the midlands of the state and was established in 1785. It was named after a former British colony in Connecticut, and it was one of the original counties created by the South Carolina legislature. The county is bordered by Richland County to the north, Kershaw County to the east, Sumter County to the south and Newberry County to the west. It covers an area of 431 square miles and has a population of 24,000 people. The history of Fairfield County dates back to before its establishment as a county. Native American tribes such as Catawbas, Cheraws and others populated this region for centuries prior to European contact. In 1754, English settlers established Fort Congaree near present-day Ridgeway as part of their efforts to secure control over this region from French forces in Canada. During the Revolutionary War, Fairfield County was home to many battles between Patriot forces and British troops due its strategic location between Charlotte and Charleston. The most famous battle fought here was at Hobkirk’s Hill on April 25th 1781 which resulted in a decisive victory for Patriot forces under General Nathanael Greene. After independence from Britain was secured Fairfield County began to see increased development during the 19th century with cotton production becoming an important industry here thanks to its fertile soils and access to waterways such as Broad River which allowed for easy transportation of goods. In 1868 South Carolina’s first public school system opened here with schools being built throughout Fairfield county over the next several decades. The 20th century saw further advances in education with Winthrop College (now Winthrop University) opening its doors here in 1886 making it one of South Carolina’s first public universities. During this time period industry began shifting away from agriculture towards manufacturing with companies such as Springs Industries establishing operations here during this time period creating jobs for many residents throughout Fairfield county. Today, Fairfield county remains an important part of South Carolina’s economy thanks largely due to its strong manufacturing sector which continues producing goods for both local consumption and export markets around the world while also providing employment opportunities for hundreds if not thousands of local residents each year. Fairfield County School District is one of the oldest school districts in South Carolina, with a rich history of educational excellence. The district is comprised of six public schools, including three elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. The district also has a variety of alternative education options to meet the needs of all students.
