According to watchtutorials, Barbados is an independent island nation located in the Caribbean Sea, and has a population of approximately 287,000 people. The majority of the population is of African descent, with an estimated 82% identifying as such. There is also a large number of people of mixed race, with around 10% identifying as such. The remaining 8% are made up of those who identify as Caucasian or other ethnicities. Barbados also has a significant Indo-Caribbean population, accounting for approximately 6.5% of the total population. The largest city in Barbados is Bridgetown, which accounts for nearly half of the country’s total population. The capital city houses a variety of government offices and embassies, along with numerous businesses and cultural attractions. Other major cities include Oistins, Speightstown and Holetown. Barbados also has a number of small towns and villages scattered throughout the island that are home to many rural communities. The official language spoken in Barbados is English; however there are several other languages spoken by some members of the population including Bajan Creole, Spanish and French Patois. Christianity is by far the most widely practiced religion on the island; with an estimated 95% identifying as Christian – mainly Protestant denominations such as Anglican or Methodist faiths.
