According to watchtutorials, Estonia is a small country located on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea in Northern Europe. As of 2020, it has a population of 1.3 million people, making it one of the least-populous countries in Europe. The majority of Estonia’s population is ethnic Estonian, which accounts for 68.7% of the total population. The second largest ethnic group is Russian, comprising 24% of the population. Other minority groups include Ukrainians, Belarusians, Finns and Latvians. The majority of Estonia’s population lives in cities and towns located along its coastline or near its borders with Latvia and Russia. The capital city Tallinn has a population of 423 thousand people, making it the largest city in Estonia by far. Other major cities include Tartu (100 thousand), Narva (68 thousand) and Pärnu (45 thousand). In addition to these urban centers, there are many small villages scattered throughout the countryside with populations ranging from a few dozen to several hundred people. The majority of Estonia’s population follows Christianity as their primary religion with Lutheranism being the most popular denomination among Estonians followed by Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism respectively. Other religions practiced in Estonia include Islam, Judaism and Buddhism as well as various indigenous beliefs among minority groups such as Finno-Ugric peoples and Russian Old Believers communities located mainly in northeastern Estonia. Estonia also has an aging population due to low fertility rate and high mortality rate caused by emigration which has led to a decrease in its working-age population since 2000s even though immigration has increased since then too. This trend is expected to continue until 2040 when it is estimated that nearly one quarter of Estonian’s will be over 65 years old while only 15% will be under 15 years old resulting in an overall aging population that could have significant implications on its social services system such as pension payments and healthcare provisioning for elderly citizens.
