According to watchtutorials, the population of the Republic of the Congo is estimated at 5.2 million people. The majority of the population is concentrated in the southern part of the country, with over half living in urban areas. The official language is French and a variety of African languages are also spoken. The majority religion is Christianity, although around a quarter of the population practice traditional African religions. Ethnicity is diverse, with over 60 ethnic groups living within the borders, including Kongo, Sangha, Teke and many others. Over 70% of people are under 30 years old and women make up slightly more than half of the population. Despite this young population, life expectancy at birth is only around 63 years due to poor healthcare and high levels of poverty and inequality. Education levels are low but improving as access to education increases in rural areas and efforts are made to increase literacy rates among adults.
